About Ford Cars

Henry Ford, then 39 years old, founded the Ford Motor Company. The Michigan factory initially produced only a small number of cars.

Ford Motor Company is one of the largest automobile companies in the world and has been family-owned for more than a century. They introduced the Model T in 1908 with the first engine to have a removable cylinder. In 1930, Ford introduced the Model A with a safety-glass windshield. Ford continued to innovate with the Lifeguard package, which was introduced in 1956. It included features like rear seatbelts, a padded dashboard, and childproof door locks. Ford’s first six-seater, the Mustang, was unveiled in 1964. The following year, Ford introduced the seat belt reminder light.

Ford enjoyed a global period of success in the 1980s, which was boosted by its advertising slogan “Have You Driven a Ford Recently?” In this time Ford purchased the British automaker Aston Martin and later sold it to Volvo Cars. Ford’s car sales were booming in the U.S. but began to fall in the early 21st century.

Ford developed a turnaround strategy called “The Way Forward” in 2005. It was led by Bill Ford, Chairman of Ford Americas Division, and Mark Fields as President. The strategy, announced on January 23, 2006., involved downsizing the business, stopping production of outdated models and closing 14 plants, which resulted in 30,000 job losses. The plan also included new vehicles such as ‘Crossover Suvs’ and advanced electric hybrid technology for the Ford Escape Hybrid.

William Clay Ford Jr. was Henry Ford’s great-grandson and served as executive chairman from 1998. He became CEO in 2001. Ford’s 2007 profit of $750 million was a turnaround from a $12.7 billion historic loss in 2006. Ford sold Land Rover to Tata Motors on June 2, 2000, for $2.3 billion.

Ford Motor Company began marketing its vehicles under the Ford brand in 2012, and Lincoln for luxury cars in the U.S. Ford confirmed on November 1, 2012, that Alan Mulally, the CEO, would remain in his position until 2014. Mark Fields was appointed President of American Operations, Chief Operating Officer, and President.
